Function areas

South Oakleigh Bowling Club has four separate function areas available for day, evening or weekend hire.  The main Dining Room can seat up to 120 people and has a well appointed kitchen for preparation and serving of everything from finger-food to sit-down meals. A new portable stage enables live music and a central dance floor. The small Meeting Room is ideally suited for groups of up to 40 people, while the Bar Area can be used for less formal functions.

Finally there is our new Outdoor BBQ area with shade sails and its own separate kitchen. This combination of facilities makes SOBC an ideal location for everything from corporate meetings, trade shows and seminars, to adult birthdays, anniversaries or family reunions, or gatherings of local clubs and community organisations. And if your group would like to try Lawn Bowling, you can hire our greens and we will provide the bowls and one of our members to show you the basics. You can even play under lights.


Function FAQs

  • What are the hiring costs?

    • Main Dining/Function room - $500 for Saturday nights, $300 any other time (seats up to 120 people)

    • Small Meeting room - $100 (suitable for up to 45 people)

    • Outdoor BBQ area (including use of indoor or outdoor kitchen) - $100

    • Bar/Social room - cost negotiable but the area may have to be shared with our members.

    • Due to our full liquor licence, all functions require qualified bar staff at $30 per hour per barperson. One barperson can usually cater for up to 60 people, please contact Jim (0419 312 957) for further information.

  • Can we provide our own catering?

    • Yes. There is a fully equipped kitchen

    • We do not provide any food but we can recommend outside caterers.

  • Can we bring our own beverages?

    • No. All beverages must be purchased from the Club bar.

    • Our bar prices are very reasonable, well below pub prices. (Download Price List)

    • However, any Bar Staff provided by the Club will be charged at $30 per hour per staff member.

  • Is smoking permitted?

    • Smoking is not allowed in the Clubhouse or within 10 metres of the Clubhouse entrance, however, there is a designated smoking area outside.

  • Are guests allowed on the bowling greens?

    • Guests are only permitted on the greens during a paid Social Bowls session when supervised by a Club Member.

    • The cost of Barefoot Bowls is $10 per player, bowls hire is included.

  • Are there any other costs that we may incur?

    • Depending upon the type of function you are holding, we may require payment of a $250 insurance bond and the hiring of security staff.

    • You must either clean up the hired area immediately after the function or pay an additional $50 for outside cleaners.

  • How do we pay for a function?

    • Payments can be made online at the time of booking by credit card or PayPal.

    • A 50% deposit is required 7 days prior to the function. The booking can not be confirmed until the deposit is paid.

    • All accounts must be paid in full at the conclusion of the function.
